Pain And Achieving Success

As humans, we react strongly by moving away from pain, or towards pleasure. As we’ve found out, we tend to react more to pain than to pleasure. Imagine what happens when there is a forest fire at your back.
You’d run much faster, with your life in danger, than you’d chase after that Ferrari or whatever lovely toy you really, really wanted, if the price of getting it was to run a 4 minute mile!
It’s how people can lift a car off a loved one when danger threatens. We actually all have it, and can tap into it to succeed in our goals.

I’m just back from Live The Dream 3 in Dallas, Texas (did you know they were a country before seceding from Mexico?) There were many wonderful leaders and speakers there  and the energy was HIGH! I’m still on it.

One thing that the vast majority of them talked about was the importance of PERSISTENCE in achieving your goals.
You’ve got to really GO ALL OUT, do EVERYTHING you can think of, and then some. If current circumstances are painful enough, and you want things to change badly enough, you’ll get moving.

Talk to the successful people you know – get them to tell you their story of how they got to where they are, and what inspired them and kept them going, even when they had huge obstacles – they all do…. and get inspired!
You don’t need to hit rock bottom, but you can call on the future pain that will be due to the consequences of staying where you are (in reality sliding backwards) to get you determined not to head into a black hole. Establish the floor there and head up. It’s worth it!

Oh yes, Mac did get moving a few days later and now is back to jimmying the door open as slickly as before. He decided he did not want to keep waiting for me to open the door for him 10 mins after he is wants to get out. His persistence paid off.

And, apologies for the sound quality! The message is worth it, though!

  1. Hello Tayo,

Everywhere I look people are saying that to be successful in an online business, find a mentor. Well, what about you? Do you mentor anyone?

    Lawrence

    1. That is true, Lawrence. This can be done in a few ways: by copying or modelling someone & by getting a mentor or coach.
How tightly you define the niche is up to you and what you want out of the relationship.

Celebrity Apprentice was a form of coaching by Donald Trump – at the end, they figured out what was required to be successful IN HIS WORLD. So if you wanted to be successful in the Real Estate arena, you’d follow what he was doing in that space, but there was no need to copy other aspects of his life.
You do not tend to find all attributes in a single person, so you could have various mentors and coaches for different areas of your life. There is financial, health, spiritual, relationships etc.

First you need to define what your goals are, & in which specific area, then look around at people who are where you want to be.
For example: if you can’t hire or access the Donald directly, read all his books and what is written about him, model how he does what you want to do.
You can also have coaches and mentors in stages as you head towards your goal – one may be great at the start, but you may require someone else as you get further along your journey.

I’ve sent you an email in reply – let me know if you have any more questions.
